“Estomago lleno, corazon contento,” my family has always said if you had a full tummy, you would have a happy heart.Throughout my youth, I've been fortunate enough to be surrounded with an abundance of food everywhere I've been. I feel that my culture has raised me to truly value every meal put in front of me and it has taught me that none of it should go to waste. Coming from a family who also suffered from hunger and nutritional deficiency as kids, I feel the need to give back to the community. It pains me to see there are children around the world who are dying from the unavailability of food when there is a constant amount of food going to waste in America. I’ve noticed that in school, by the end of lunch, the trash cans are overwhelmed with the amount of leftover foods. It isn’t rare to find perfectly untouched foods still wrapped in its packaging in the trash. Taking this observation into consideration, my proposal to help relieve the hunger around the world is simple; leftovers. My proposal is for there to be locations in the areas of need where there are refrigerators connected to the city’s electricity. Instead of throwing foods away after meals, families could go and leave them in the refrigerators. Not only could this result to be popular in areas near families, but it could be very successful near restaurants where they cook fresh meals everyday for their clients. If these restaurants were willing to cooperate and go the extra mile, they could even fundraise to help provide breakfast for local schools. There are many people I come in contact with on a daily basis who are compassionate about providing meals for those in need, especially children. These people would be willing to fundraise and help provide meals to the people in need. If people weren't willing to provide donations with nothing in return, fundraising could be done through a constant sale of food in my school where the profits go to providing food for those who need it abroad. If everyone worked together to fight the famine in the world, the number of people dying could easily be reduced. Aside from providing money for meals and tangible food, it is important for a portion of the funds raised to go into providing education to the children on how they can obtain food with a significant nutritional value at a low price. This education can go a long way for the rest of the life for those whom were educated.
